I was reading about this this morning. Apparently landmark registrations for .mobi names begins today.. I thought about getting duanestorey.mobi, but considering not a lot of people look at my website from a normal PC, I don’t think many people are going to from a mobile phone.. I tried briefly to get google.mobi, but alas, it’s already taken 🙁 ...
Why is it that hairdressers just can’t follow simple instructions? How does “just a little off the top” translate into “shave my head bald?” I just don’t get it. I’ve been trying to grow my hair a bit longer for like six months now, and yet whenever I go in to clean the sides up a bit, they always chop like a full inch off the top, even though they always promise not to.
It doesn’t start that way either, which is what I don’t get. The hairdresser always says “yeah, don’t worry, I’ll just take a quarter inch off the top to clean up your ends.” And then, it all just goes ...
I accidentally went through my cell phone pictures tonight, and was really surprised that I had so many. So, I pulled a few off from my adventures this summer and added them to my flickr cell phone set.
Here’s one from the John Mayer concert. I didn’t think I’d go to this concert, but it sort of fell together at the last second.

Well, it’s been a very busy couple of days. I got a call on Thursday at work from my step-mom telling me that my dad was in the hospital because he had a small heart attack during the night. I left work to go to Chilliwack and be with him in the hospital. He’s doing really well, and is mostly just bored now. They’re going to take him to New Westminster in the next few days to do an Angiogram and see what he looks like inside. Everyone is confident he’s going to make a complete recovery, so that’s great. I made several trips to Chilliwack over the weekend to visit him, and just got back ...
So, I’m all over this “chilling out at home” thing. I’ve spent the last few nights just pittering around my apartment, drinking coffee, and listening to music. Hell, I even cooked my own dinner tonight (it wasn’t very good though). I feel a lot better now that I’ve had a few good nights of sleep, even though I could still use a bit more.
I rediscovered some panorama software on my computer, and decided to try and stich a few together. Here’s is a stich of a few shots from my apartment this weekend. Sean asked me to try one at night, so I’ll do that soon too.
On another note — ...
Well, I can honestly say that as much as I like travelling, it sure is nice to be back home. Leaving my home city always makes me appreciate it more when I get back home. Von was a great time, but I’m looking forward to relaxing and catching up on sleep for the next few days.. I just got back from the mall where I bought a bunch of new clothes (winter’s coming after all). I also picked up the new John Mayer CD (Continuum), and have been listening to it. It’s pretty mellow, but it’s actually really good. His concert is coming up next week here in Vancouver.
Here’s a shot from my patio ...
I spent a bunch of time walking around tonight with my iPod and some new music. You can definitely tell that summer is basically over, and that autumn is slowly putting its claws into Vancouver. To be honest, I’m actually glad. I love that feeling you get in the fall when you walk outside and get the cold, crisp air in your lungs. Or crawling into bed late and night when your sheets are a bit cold. Even sitting in front of the fireplace with a plate of nachos watching a movie.
A few years ago, in the fall/winter, there were a few weeks of crazy sunspot activity on the surface of the sun. When ...
Well, the last 24 hours have been very frustrating. It started at around 3:30pm as we left the Boston Waterfront Hotel and headed to Logan Airport. Our original flight was supposed to leave at 6:30pm, bounce through Toronto, and get us back into Vancouver at around 11pm PST. Once we got to the airport they informed us that our 6:30pm flight would be cancelled, but there was one at 7:30pm we could catch. This also changed our Toronto-Vancouver lag of the journey, getting us at home (in theory) at around midnight.
We weren’t that concerned about this at first, since it gave us a few hours to drink ...
Well, in about nine hours I’ll be lifting off from Vancouver International Airport, heading for Logan airport via Toronto. I’m actually pretty surprised how normal I feel about flying tomorrow. I thought I would be pretty nervous. Maybe flying with 3 of your close pals makes it a bit easier, or maybe it’s the thought of the stewardess and her cartload of beer that makes it worthwhile.
Clay and Aaron flew today to set up the booth and get ready. Clay’s blog entry is pretty funny.
Chris and I made the obvious mistake of sitting on my couch, drinking beer and watching 24 episodes up until ...
So tonight was a pre-party drinking adventure at Jason and Sheila’s new apartment near Coal Harbour. They moved from near me down to a new place right on the water. There’s a good party coming up here on Friday, so it should be a good time.. It will probably be the last big drinking adventure before we’re having a few beers at the Westin Waterfront hotel in Boston. I’m actually getting really exciting about going to Boston.. I hate flying, but realizing I’m in a bar on the atlantic ocean at 2am always brings a smile to my face..
I went out today after work and snapped a few shots around ...
Lately at work I’ve been doing some developing on the macintosh platform. At first I was pretty excited about this, because I really don’t have much experience developing anything on a mac (and macs seems to be the “cool” thing now). But now that I’ve done a week of development on the little mac mini beside me, I can honestly say that development on a mac mini is just a bad idea. These things might be able to play music in iTunes, but they really aren’t meant to do anything as hardcore as compiling code. Maybe I’m a bit biased since I’ve used windows all my life, but even navigating ...
Man, it’s been quite a while since I posted a blog entry.. My apologies to the three people who read this on a regular basis — I won’t let you down again. The truth is, I haven’t had much time to do much of anything recently. I spent most of the weekend at work, or at least on my couch with my laptop working — there’s still a lot to do for VON, but it’s starting to shape up… It’s only the start of September, but I already know it’s going to be one of those crazy busy months that I’ll be glad is behind me when it’s all over..
I’ve slowly been working myself back into the ...
Margo sent me this article about her brother Chad.? I guess him and his girlfriend were hanging out by the Vedder river in Chilliwack when Chad spotted a body floating in the river.? Chad pulled him out and performed CPR on him.
Here’s the article in the Chilliwack Times.
Wow to go Chad! ...
So if you hadn’t noticed, my blog has been really flaky for the last week or so. For some reason, all the hard drive space on my machine keeps disappearing, and it’s causing mysql and apache to occasionally crash. I spent a few hours this morning trying to figure it out, so hopefully it will be a bit more stable soon. As for today, I’ll probably hang out by the water for an hour or so, and then maybe do some grocery shopping. I’m going to get a membership tomorrow at the Bentall Fitness Center I think (gotta look good for Mexico right?). Looking forward to the long weekend coming up. I’d ...
I got my flight confirmation today, so I’m officially heading to Boston in a few weeks for fall VON.? The only crimp in a otherwise fun trip is having to fly on September 11th.? For a guy who hates flying to begin with, it’s not really an exciting thought.
On Friday night we completed our move into Bentall One.? Adrian was nice enough to blow his whole weekend setting up the network, so today was a fully productive day. ? Other than that, not much else is new — I hung out with my dad and step-mom on Saturday down in Steveston (mmm fish and chips).? My dad took some good photos, so maybe ...
Well, I’m sad to say that I finished my last episode of season one today.? ? Lots of plot twists, lots of great action.? If I ever go missing, call Jack Bauer and tell him to come find me. ...
Someone told me last week that 24 was a good TV show. I had heard of it, but never watched any of the TV shows. So that night I went to the Yaletown video place and picked up a few episodes.
Let me just say, this show rocks. Right after seeing a few episodes, I went down to Future Shop and bought the entire first season. I’m on episode 10 I think, which means I still have 14 left.? The best part is that every show essentially ends up a cliffhanger, so you’re so excited to put the next episode on and keep going.? I really don’t know if I could handle a real season of this, where you can only ...
Amanda called me last night and asked if I wanted to go to the Vancouver Aquarium with her, Andie and the kids. She had a free ticket, so I thought it would be fun. Traffic was a bitch getting to and from the Aquarium, but we all had fun while we were there. I’m thinking about maybe playing tennis tomorrow, and finally getting around to cleaning up my apartment.
...
When I was back in Chilliwack last weekend, I had this strange urge to play tennis. I used to play like ten years ago with Jeff, Landy and Michele, but I had no idea where my old raquet was. So, I went down to Cottonwood Mall and picked up a new raquet and some tennis balls. After hitting the ball against the wall for about 20 minutes, I realized that it wasn’t as fun as I had hoped it would be.
The funny thing is that right after I got back into Vancouver, I talked to Jason and he was asking me if I played tennis. So, today Jason and I went down to David Lam Park and played some tennis (my ...
When I was driving back from the Rocky Mountains, I was thinking about where I would go for my next trip. New York was awesome, and so was Banff and Lake Louise, but I spent so much time travelling that it wasn’t really very relaxing (still very rewarding, but they are different things). So, I decided my next vacation should probably involve less travelling, and more relaxing.
Thankfully, my roommate and friend from first year university, Robert May, is getting married in November in Mexico. So, tomorrow I’m going to put my deposit down, and commit myself to a week of fun in the sun in late ...
